Let's Get Published!

What Let's Get Published Does

Let's Get Published gives authors an easy way of placing samples of their work in front of the book publishing industry.

If you have written something you believe is worthy of being put into print, then this site gives you the opportunity to present a snippet of your work to the literary community.

What Let's Get Published Does Not Do

Let's Get Published does not offer instant success. No matter who you are, or how good you believe your talents are, there are still the hurdles of the editor, the literary agent and the publisher to overcome.

Let's Get Published does not currently represent individuals, or their work, directly to the great and the good in the literary world. Let's Get Published does not currently undertake commissions for representation. It simply tries to promote the work of members, and place their talents on show in a window to the world about us.

Let's Get Published does not currently offer an editorial service. Your work is your own, as is the responsibility for ensuring its' suitability for publication.

So What Does It Cost?

It costs nothing for authors to use. It is FREE. You pay no money. You might well ask the following question:

Why?

The answer is simple.

I am an unpublished author myself. I have tried direct approaches to publishers, and to literary agents. Two actually had the courtesy to reply, even if it was only to send me nice rejection slips.

The vast majority of reputable publishers wont take on new authors because of the sheer number of hopefuls who want to break into the literary marketplace. That is why publishers (as a rule) use literary agencies as a filtering mechanism to weed out the chaff. Unfortunately it has now got to the point where the reputable agencies are finding similar difficulties: there are just too many wanna-be’s (and I include myself in that term!) out there, and sifting through them is an expensive, time-consuming process. I set myself to wondering how the process could be improved, and came up with the idea of a web portal where authors could promote their work, and publishers, editors and agents could review it.

So that is the purpose of this website.

In answer to the question posed earlier (why is it free?) it is simple: if there were fees imposed on potential users of the site, it might well act as a barrier to those potential users. I want to give as many people as possible the opportunity to put samples of their work out there, regardless of their financial status, and for editors, publishers and agencies to review that collected work through a single access point.

I stress that this website does not seek to replace literary agencies. This website does not currently seek to represent specific people (or groups, or companies) on either side of the publishing divide. It is simply a means for bringing interested parties together at an informal, impersonal, and undemanding level

The site will present literary samples from anyone who wishes to contribute, but it will not publish any authors’ personal contact information. However, if a publisher or literary agent wishes to be put in touch with an author known to the website then contact information will be provided to them. This is a condition of membership - but after all, the object of submitting here is to find a publisher or agent, isn't it?

Is it then a wholly altruistic venture?

Not entirely.

For example, the site will feature advertising. That’s a price we pay for living in a commercial world, though I will try to mitigate any negative effects the advertising might have on visitors' enjoyment of the site (but please do click on the links to keep this site going!)

We will offer a facility where anyone can make donations to Let's Get Published. After all, if we are successful in getting you noticed, you just might want to show your appreciation! (Of course, if you want to help us keep Let's Get Published going there's no need to wait before you donate! LGP smiley

Also, when an agency or publisher contacts Let's Get Published to request the details of a member whose work has attracted their interest, we may request a finders fee of them. Let's Get Published was not set up to make a fortune off the backs of authors, but we aim to offer a professional service and reserve the right to make a professional charge accordingly.
