Before we begin I must warn you. This story is a little on the scary side. If you’re not comfortable reading about unusual objects with mysterious powers, it might be best if you stop reading now and choose another book—the kind of book that younger children would find more appealing. If strange visitors or evil sorcerers have a tendency of giving you nightmares, then take heed, because you’re going to find those in here, too. And if the possibility of death frightens you, then please don’t read another word.By member 'mbroadway' (Michael) |

Synopsis of Book One in the Asquinn Twins Series.
Writer’s
Profile
A DOG
FOR KEEPS was published in 1987 in Canada and again in 1989 in the United
States of America. The book is used as a grade three reader in both
countries.
The
stories of, and from the heart, are really The Asquinn Series. These
stories are true as they sprang from an incident that happened to her as a
little girl in Ontario. As a result, Grace has a deep respect and
admiration for the Ontario Provincial Police. This entire series is
dedicated to them.
Grace
is an avid outdoors person and loves hiking every day with her dogs,
bicycling, swimming and boating; all this as a relaxation when not
writing.

A tale for Christian Young Adults. This
is truly where the trail forks,” Ken said to his father. “Good-bye,
Dad. Mom.”
He
turned and opened the passenger door for his bride.
“Mrs.
Asquinn,” he smiled and bowed then helped her inside.
Beside
his car, Matt bowed to his bride.
“Mrs.Turehue,”
he said and helped her to be seated.
The
boys climbed behind the wheel of their respective car.
Matt,
being a gentleman, turned his car around and drive the proper way down the
hill and onto the main road through Forest Lake.
Ken,
on the other hand, had other ideas. With strong feelings of what he called
freedom, with a wild yelp drove across the grassy lawn where the wedding
had just taken place and onto the road through a gap in the trees. He even
knocked over a few chairs in the process.
“Oh
that boy,” Mrs. Asquinn said, wiping a tear from one corner of her eye.
”Dear God in heaven, please keep the four of them safe.”
Pastor
Asquinn took her in his arms. She rested her head on his shoulder and
wept.
“Kenny,
my Kenny has flown from the nest. I’ll pray everyday that God will
restore to him the joy of His salvation.”
Mrs.
Turehue was doing much the same.
“I
hope our Matt fulfills at least one of those lofty dreams of his,” she
said to Mr. Turehue.
“My
greatest concern is his salvation,” Mr. Turehue said.
Pastor Asquinn hugged his wife tight. His words were for Mr. and Mrs. Turehue as well as her.“Those boys are truly saved; their profession of faith when I baptized them, genuine. Something, and I can only name Satan, has merely turned them aside for a season. I was truly blessed to baptize those two. They will be back. They will return with their tails between their legs.”By member 'whitesmoke' (Grace) |

Synopsis – Work In Progress
Chapter 1 = Setting(s): Psych ward.
Basis: The reader does not know that the setting is a hospital. The
surroundings are only partially explained. The name of the character is
also unknown, up until the second chapter. The girl is staring outside of
the window, remembering her past. Remember, the reader is continuously
unaware that the girl is in a Psych ward. Now, the girl remembers back to
before she was in the ward...
Chapter 2 = Setting(s): English class, school grounds,
home, park.
Basis: The reader now knows of the girl's name. The girl's father
is an alcoholic, and beats her. The mother is cowardly. There is the
feeling of isolation with this girl. At school, she draws sketches
in her English book. She is told off. This causes her to have to suppress
her way of escape (drawing)...
--- (The in-between chapters are the juiciest bits,
with death and tears. The reader will become so involved with this poor
girl, that they will feel her every emotion.)
LAST CHAPTER = This chapter starts with the exact same
words as the first chapter, and only now do the readers realise that this
girl is in a psych ward.
And the story is left open, to make a further one...or to allow people's minds to wonder. At the end of the book, the girl is still in the psych ward. She has not got "better".By member 'Dayganna' (Sandy Catherine) |
